Winnebago-Itasca Travelers Club Fraser Valley Explorers Chapter George Robb, President (778-835-6010) Ellen Brodie, Convener of Outings (604-936-5011)
CULTUS LAKE OUTING We take our hats off to our hosts John & Linda Duke and George & Hazel Robb: what a great weekend. Not only did they arrange for perfect weather, they threw in wine tasting, golf, a pool game, beanbag baseball, nightly campfires and on top of all that, a first class Thousand Trails campground. We had 15 coaches show up including Arie & Ann who limped in with the coach locked in second gear. Thanks to Dick Kootsra who had had a similar problem back a few years ago he was able to tell Arie what the problem was. Friday afternoon 10 of us played golf on the par 3 course. We had lots of laughs and great fun. Happy hour turned out to be extra special, with John Novick supplying us with fresh salmon that he caught on the Vedder Canal, which we cooked over an open fire. Then to help wash this all down some ‘Dead Frogs’ showed up in the form of liquid refreshments, thanks to the generosity of the Smith’s son who has a cottage brewery. Our hosts had arranged dinner for us at the clubhouse, chicken, ribs or steak. We finished the night off with a nice campfire. Saturday morning was the pool tournament, which was won by Jim Partridge. Sorry Jack but I couldn’t let you beat me in the finals. Right after lunch was a trip up to the berry winery for some sampling and of course the odd purchase, and then it was a challenge match in beanbag baseball. Hilda picked the teams using the one two method. Too bad her team was the #2 team because the #1 team captained by Darlene Scott edged out her team. We did manage to locate a ringer in the campground to help Hilda’s team get close. She got a triple and later scored a run. Maybe she should have played the whole game? Happy hour was over at the Huisman’s to celebrate Arie’s 65th birthday. We also had a 50-50 draw for the Children’s Hospital Charity with Lois Tressel being the lucky winner splitting a pot of $70. Next Outing: October 16-18 – Burlington KOA in Burlington WA.
