With RV Solar Kits getting more and more popular every day, let’s take look at Solar Charge Controls.

Samlex Solar now has the Model SCC-30AB charge controller rated for 30 amps of continuous use. This entirely new programmable charge controller allows you eight different charging programs for your battery requirements.

Charging programs include four stages: bulk, absorption, float and equalization settings. The LCD display will allow you to view amperage, battery voltage, watts, and battery charging status. With a 5-year warranty, this new charge controller will make for a very nice upgrade to your current solar system. Ask your local dealer to show you this exciting new product.

Welcome to the spring edition of my column.

The weather has been very co-operative, so maybe we will get an early start to the season. As usual for this time of the year, we are receiving many new items for the RV Parts Dept.

The first item I would like to touch upon is the newly upgraded version of the Rhino-Flex RV Sewer System.

At the end of last year, Rhino-Flex converted all their couplers and bayonet fittings to swivel ends and new locking rings. This addition will provide you with a no-leak positive lock for your sewer hose. Advertised as “The world’s toughest sewer hose,” the quality of this item will be appreciated by seasoned RV owners. Features also include their unique click and lock system, which holds the hose in your desired shape and will not allow spring recoil like the conventional hoses we are all so familiar with.

Keeping with the “Going Green” theme, Camco has provided us with a unique  “POP-UP” Recycle container.

This new 3-compartment system allows you to sort between bottles, cans, and paper. Features include a 4 cm storage height, padded handles, ground stake and storage bag. When you are ready to head home, simply close the zippered lid and return the items to your local recycling depot. This is a simple and easy to use system for our younger ones to learn.

Well, that was a quick RV season, wasn’t it?

I would like to thank the readers of The RV Times for their calls and e-mails that I received throughout the season. Please feel free to e-mail me for any questions that you may have regarding items featured in my column or something else you may be looking for. With that said and done, let’s see What’s New?

As most RV owners know, and those who don’t will soon find out, your rear tail-lights are extremely prone to corrosion. These non-sealed light assemblies seem to give grief to almost everyone. Well I am happy to say we have a fix. There is now a new surface mount, LED tail-light assembly available. Being a surface mount fixture, it is an easy retro-fit for your existing light. The overall dimensions are 2.5 cm in depth, 21 cm tall x 28 cm wide. Each unit is complete with a clear back-up lamp, a red turning and running light lamp, and a red reflector. Not only do you get superior longevity, but the sharpness of the LED will make you much more visible on those unfamiliar roads. This new product should be available sometime in mid-January 2010.

First and foremost I would like to thank Sheila and all my other suppliers who attended our very successful open house in March.  We are looking forward to having you all back again next year.

With the increased popularity of e-mail, I am getting more and more enquiries regarding items featured in my column. Please do not hesitate to send me a request regarding these items or something else you are looking for.
   
By the looks of it, spring has arrived and we will all be out using our RVs soon. In the last edition I spoke of the RV Vent System to help your refrigerator function more efficiently in the hot weather. Now to take it one step further, the new Fridge Airator complete with an activated charcoal filter will help the efficiency of your refrigerator along with absorbing any unwanted odours.

As RV refrigerators have no interior fans, you will notice you have cold spots inside sometimes causing freezing of products in the lower section. The movement of the air inside the cabinet will help alleviate this problem.

The activated charcoal filter is available as a separate part. Be sure to ask your local RV dealer for details.
